Kenya’s small forward Taylor Ongwae left his native country 11 years ago to attend college and play basketball in Denmark.

Ongwae hasn’t seen his mother since he left Kenya. But thanks to the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket in Kigali, Rwanda that the family reunited over the weekend on Sunday.

After Kenya pulled off the must win 72-66 against Mali, it was all celebrations as the country was making a return to the championship in 28 years and managing to progress to the quarter finals.

“I don’t know how to explain this. I’m very happy. I’ve watched him play since primary school when he was like eight years old, so I have been nurturing him, and when I see him win like they’ve won today, I feel very happy,” said the mom.

“I’m so happy that you guys are here, and I just want to let you know that I love you,” Ongwae, who plays for Bakken Bears in Denmark, responded.
