Six police officers arrested over extortion of Shs200,000 from Danish national for not wearing a mask

Police has arrested six of its own officers for allegedly extorting money from a Danish national on grounds of not having a face mask.

The six officers have been identified as Police constable-PC Gerald Asului, Police constable-PC Aduma Kisitu, Police constable-PC Phillip Olim, Police constable-PC Obel Bonny, Police constable-PC Jacks Ankunda, and Constable Driver Owele Isa and they are attached to the emergency response unit.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said that the officers were arrested following a complain from Michael Barger a Danish national who claimed that the officers arrrested him for not wearing a mask and extorted Shs200000 from him.

The Professional Standards Unit registered this complaint and immediately started following it up.

“They took interest and went to the extent of retrieving the CCTV footage from the point of alleged extortion, and these officers who were conducting the operation on police patrol vehicle number UP 4918 were well identified and arrested,” Enanga said.

He said the officers will be charged with extortionist tendencies and professional misconduct.
