Police and the National Building Review board are hunting for businessman Haruna Sentongo, the owner of the building that collapsed in Kisenyi on Sunday, killing six people and injuring several others.

Kampala City Council Authority said the building was being constructed illegally and there was no supervision from the city authorities as it wasn’t granted permission.

Ssentongo’s known mobile phone number has been off since the incident.

Police is also looking for the site engineer, the building architect and foremen. However, the site architect and engineer could not be identified by the time of filing this report as the building didn’t have approved plans from which their identity could easily be established.

The National Building Review Board says the building collapsed because the developer used counterfeit materials, poor workmanship and did not engage professionals.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is yet to prefer charges against Sentongo.
