National Unity Platform (NUP) Lawyer and Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Muwada Nkunyingi has revealed that they finally got the dentention location of Turkey based Ugandan blogger Fred Lumbuye.

Lumbuye was arrested a month ago by the Turkish authorities and Uganda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Henry Okello Oryem came out and said that he was to be repatriated to Uganda before being charged for promoting sectarianism and instigating violence.

However, since then Lumbuye’s whereabouts have not been known prompting NUP lawyers to travel to Turkey and establish the facts surrounding his arrest. The lawyers also wrote to Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking if Lumbuye had been deported back.

In his statement issued on Tuesday, Nkunyingi who also acts as the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs in Parliament, said he had a meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Uganda today where he confirmed the whereabout of Lumbuye. He said Lumbuye is being detained at an Immigration Centre in Turkey.

“Finaly we found Lumbuye detained at KOCAELI VILICIGI Foreigner detention centre in Turkey. He is alive and depressed/bored. His wish is to be free and possibly relocate to a safe country but not Uganda. He thanked you all.We are taking legal efforts,” said Muwada.

Lumbuye is on the wanted list of Uganda Police and last month, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that they have 15 cases that they will bring against the controversial blogger once he is handed over to them.
