Victoria University Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga has refuted claims that he’s ‘Rwandan spy’.

Last week, Dr Muganga was brutally arrested by three plain clothed men attached to the CMI who dragged him to a ‘drone’ and whisked him away.

The UPDF spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso came out and said Dr Muganga’s arrest was in connection with espionage and illegal stay in the country.

However, a day later he was released on directive from President Yoweri Museveni.

Speaking during an interview on NTV The Spot, Dr Muganga said the people that arrested him didn’t show an arrest warrant and he did not know why he was arrested.

“When I saw people cocking their guns and mishandling my security detail. I realized there was trouble, the only thing I had to do was to accept and be taken wherever they wanted me to go,” said Dr Muganga.

He added, “They said they wanted to search my house and I gave them a go ahead provided they didn’t take their guns and army uniforms in my house because I have children. I didn’t want them to traumatize my children.”

On claims that he’s being used by Rwanda government to spy on Uganda, Dr Muganga said the only job he’s good at is to educate and transform education.

“You can’t spend 20 years in school to end up a spy, what do you benefit? Nothing. The only thing I know best is to educate and transform education,” he said.

He said President Museveni is well versed with the dynamics of this country and he is trying to unite East Africa. Nonetheless he said their standoff with President Paul Kagame is creating problems with some of them.

“When two elephants (President Museveni and President Kagame) fight, we the ‘grass’ suffer,” he said before adding that; “Yesterday I escorted my family to the airport and they were all crying, they wanted me to leave the country (Uganda) with them, but this is my home. I was born in this country, made by this country & if it’s to die, let me die in this country.”
