Pheona Wall, the President of Uganda Law Society (ULS) has condemned the continued violation of human rights by the security forces.

She says security forces have made it a habit to ‘kidnap’ suspects in disguise of arresting them.

“The way the MPs (Allan Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya Muhammed) were taken is strange, actually, what happened was kidnap,” says Pheona Wall.

She faults the judiciary for remaining silent even when the security forces present tortured suspects in court.

“The judiciary has failed people. You can’t listen to evidence that was picked from someone who was tortured, that evidence should be trashed,” she says.

Also, she accuses Ugandans of moving on quickly before getting issues sorted.

“We just can’t sustain something until we get results and people are taking advantage of that. That’s why someone will commit a crime today, and stand for a position next year.

As Ugandans, we forget a lot. Few months to elections, we forget everything, make demands and behave in a certain way which is unfortunate,” she says.

On President Yoweri Museveni’s talk against granting bail to capital offenders, Pheona says; “While I don’t agree with President Museveni’s prescription of bail, I understand where he is coming from because bail has sometimes been abused.”
