OPM officials charged for procuring substandard relief items for Kasese flood victims

Three officials from the Office of the Prime Minister have been charged by the Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly procuring substandard supplies for the Kasese flood victims.

The suspects are Kaima Godfrey (Undersecretary/accounting officer) Dhikusooka Cyprian (Principal Disaster Management) and Mugerwa Kizito (Procurement Officer). They are facing charges of corruption, abuse of office, and causing financial loss to the government of Uganda.

The officials were arrested by the Edith Nakalema led State House Anti-Corruption Unit on orders of Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Of the several items that were supplied to the victims, Nabbanja singled out Nabbanja mosquito nets which she said were too small, and the blankets which she said were too light and not fit to be used by human beings.

With such development, Nabbanja ordered a technical review of other items that included; 40,000kgs of maize flour, 20,000kgs of beans, 2,000kgs of sugar, 2,000 tarpaulins, 1,350 jerricans, 1,000 basins,100 cartons of laundry soap, and 100 mats.
