Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has revealed the intention of the Ministry of Health to stop all health workers who are not vaccinated from accessing their workstations.

She made this revelation in Lira city recently. She said the directive will start in the health ministry before being implemented in other across the country.

“If you are not vaccinated, don’t come to work and if you do not come, you will not be paid because you are not coming to infect others,” Aceng warned.

Aceng made these remarks last week while receiving 40 oxygen cylinders donated to Lira Hospital by Absa Bank as their contribution towards the fight against the deadly virus.

The minister added that although there are still a lot of myths and misconceptions about Covid 19 vaccination, people who have taken the jab have not died.

The Minister made these remarks after Lira Hospital Director Dr. Stephen Obbo revealed that 10% of health workers at the facility had not yet received COVID-19 jabs.

According to Obbo, Lira Hospital has vaccinated the highest number of people in the Lango sub-region, with 2,583 fully immunized, while 5,400 are about to get their second jab. He said 90% of the health workers are already vaccinated.

Aceng went forth and asked Obbo to avail the names of health workers who are not yet vaccinated so that we can speak to them and find out what their fear is.

“From birth, you have been taking all kinds of vaccines. For those who are fully vaccinated, you have over 3 antigens in your body, so why are you worried about only one antigen of COVID -19 that is meant to protect you?” Aceng asked.
