The police officer who shot and killed motorcyclist Ronald Ssebulime after allegedly trailing the then ICT State minister, Idah Nantaba, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Corporal David Ssali was convicted of murder on his own plea of guilt after noticing overwhelming evidence against him from prosecution, according to Charles Twiine, the CID spokesperson.

Contradicting narrations circulated about the incident as Ssebulime’s family said their son was intentionally killed on his way to St Andrew’s SS Kabimbiri to visit his children.

Nantaba was quoted speaking about the incident saying; “I keep wondering why Police shot Ssebulime after his arrest. This means they wanted to hide something because he was the prime suspect, who might have revealed who had sent him.”

Corporal Ssali is said to have been the person that pulled the trigger and directly shot Ssebulime. He was attached to Naggalama police station.

Mukono Magistrates Court grade one magistrate Mariam Nulugya charged him with murder before remanding him to Luzira prison. It is reported that he first recorded an extrajudicial statement in regards to the shooting.
