Gen Elly Tumwine has decided to commit his life to serving God and preaching the gospel.

The General made these revelations at the start of the week while commemorating 40 years since November 1st1 1981, the day he got shot in the face.

On a fateful day, shortly after the successful raid on Kabamba Military Barracks, Tumwine was shot in the face during a battle with government forces at Bukomero.

This shot resulted into him losing his right eye and had to secretly be hospitalized at Mengo and Mulago hospitals in Kampala.

While speaking at the commemoration, the General revealed that he was grateful to God for not only saving his life but also his sight.

“I call this (November 1st) my day because it’s a day I recognize God’s hand and his mighty providence to say that I still want you here. My survival was proof that I still have a lot to do here,” he remarked.

He further revealed that when he emerged from the surgery, doctors told him that he was very lucky because eyes are usually sympathetic to each other in that such an injury to one eye could have left the other blinded as well.

As such, the General revealed that he had decided to commit his life in retirement to serving God.

“As the Bible says if we were thankful enough to God, we would accept the cup of his salvation. I am here, and I am promising that the greatest job that I am left with is to preach the gospel,” Tumwine told friends and family.

Other notable figures that graced the event included Former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Minister Mary Karooro Okurut, and businessman Elly Karuhanga who attended the event virtually.
