The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Beti Kamya has said that they are ready to put maximum effort to fight corruption.

While addressing the media during the joint press statement made by State Anti-Corruption Agencies at the Media Centre ahead of the commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day due on December 9, Kamya said the battle to defeat corruption requires collective efforts in order to be able to unearth and expose the corrupt.

She said the war against corruption has for long been given to mercenaries who don’t care whether they deliver or not, as long as they are paid.

“Corruption is growing to almost pandemic proportions. It is a monster, aggressive cancer, and if we don’t fight and defeat it, it is going to kill Uganda,” said Kamya.

According to the IGG, Uganda loses Shs10 trillion annually to corruption.

On December 9, Uganda will join the rest of the world to commemorate the International Anti-Corruption Day under the theme “Promoting Active Citizen Participation in Social Accountability”.

There will be several anti-corruption activities by Local Councils, Civil Society Organisations, places of worship, and media houses.

President Yoweri Museveni will be the Chief Guest at the occasion slated to happen at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

He will launch the “Lifestyle Audit Campaign” which will be used in the coming years.
