Democratic Party President Norbert Mao and supporters of Bobi Wine and National Unity Platform (NUP) are exchanging ‘insults’ on Twitter.

This follows a video shared by Mao on his Twitter handle and captioned it saying;

“For decades I have preached principled unity to deal with Musevenism – the man, the machine, and the mindset. Unhealthy competition and infiltration killed unity efforts. Today I repeat my distilled advice to those who genuinely want change – NEVER LAUNCH A MISSILE FROM A CANOE!”

In the video, Bobi Wine was vowing how the forces of change that he commands are different from the past generation of change seekers.

Mao’s Tweet triggered bitter exchanges between him and the NUP camp.

A section accused Mao of being a political entrepreneur who thought he had a monopoly on the politics of Uganda.

As expected Mao responded with a bare-knuckle approach.

“I was bored so I needed to visit the political kindergarten to see what the kids are up to. Thought they had matured but I see they’re still busy in the sandbox building sandcastles.

Bobi is not the one in power. I’m not fighting to be Katikiro of the prison. I’m fighting to get out of jail. Do you think I’ll complain if Bobi gets us out of jail?” said Mao.

After the 2021 polls, Mao said that NUP and DP put aside their differences for possible unity against the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

He claimed how they were going to have a meeting with the NUP leaders and his core team as DP to discuss how to continue the struggle beyond elections.

For starters, over 15 DP Members of Parliament crossed to NUP before the 2021 general elections.
