The Inspector General of Government Beti Kamywa has announced that she will revisit the probe into National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC)’s Shs17bn prepaid metres botched deal that was allegedly “swept under the carpet” by the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) boss Benson Turamye.

Whistle blowers from with NWSC reached out to the IGG claiming that Turamye buried a probe into the procurement that cost government billions of shillings and his wife Ruth Kembabazi  who was hired by the water body in 2018 was first tracked in a questionable promotion by NWSC boss Dr. Silver Mugisha.

“I want to assure Ugandans that the IG will reopen the Shs17 billion NWSC procurement of prepaid meters without fear or favour,” Kamya said.

NWSC boss Dr. Silver Mugisha spoke on the matter, admitting that NWSC procured prepaid metres for government institutions eight years ago, but they developed “functionality challenges within two years of operation.”

Mugisha says NWSC took “administrative measures with the supplier to mitigate financial loss to the corporation.”

He added PPDA carried out a comprehensive performance audit and that the matter was addressed in the 10th Parliament.

However, Kamya has promised to revisit the matter.
