The city came to a standstill over the weekend when a traffic officer was shot in a traffic dispute involving military wreckage.

The traffic officer who was identified as Robert Mukebezi, was shot and injured in the leg during the incident.

The latest developments however indicate that the traffic officer might have to be amputated to save his life.

AIGP Asan Kasingye, the Police Force Chief Political commissar has tweeted saying; “Sad to hear that a major artery was raptured. I am in a committee of Defence & Internal Affairs in Parliament right now. I can assure you this matter was also raised here and the legal and disciplinary procedures are on course. We pray for his quick recovery.”

The traffic officer is currently admitted at Victoria Hospital.

As much as the military officer that committed the offense is still at large, police spokesperson Fred Enanga described the offense as a sign of impunity.

“In the process, they shot and injured the traffic officer in the leg. This is quite embarrassing. It is an act of brutality, impunity, and lawlessness by selected officers,” Enanga remarked about the incident.
