Following a spate of robberies in Mukono District, the Flying Squad Unit, together with the Directorate of Crime Intelligence, have embarked on operations to pacify the area.

In their operations, they have recovered a motor vehicle registration number UAD 728Y, a dark grey Toyota Corolla, which was parked at Ham Mukasa-Nasuti junction.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the team searched the vehicle and found several items.

“Upon searching the boot of the vehicle, our scene of crime officers found a submachine gun loaded with live ammunition that was wrapped in a yellow polythene sack.”

“The team also found four sharp pangas, a sharp steel knife, two pairs of scissors, two pairs of pliers, and two screwdrivers,” said Owoyesigyire.

He disclosed that their team also recovered items of different types of electronics, which are suspected to be stolen.

“All these items have been exhibited. Examination of the recovered items is ongoing to establish the owners and whether they were used in robberies,” he said.

He added, “The gun has been submitted to our forensic experts to establish whether it was the one used in the robbery of the recent attack on the supermarket in Mukono, where one person was injured.”

Also, several suspects have been arrested and they are being processed through the systems.
