The High Court’s International Crimes Division has set February 20, 2023, as the date on which the two jailed members of parliament, Hon. Ssegirinya and Hon. Ssewanyana, will appear in court to request bail.

The pair appeared via zoom rather than physically appearing before the court.

The pre-trial proceedings have been postponed by the court’s registrar, Pamela Lamunu Ocaya, who claimed that she had to take this action because trial judge Alice Komuhangi Khauka was not present.

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana are being accused of being masterminds behind the killings in greater Masaka that claimed the lives of at least 26 residents between February and August last year.

September 7, 2022, marked a year since the duo was arrested and detained before being sent on remand to Luzira prison.
