City Lawyer Hassan Mabirizi Male has been sentenced to 18 months in prison by Justice Musa Ssekaana for contempt of court.

This follows a protracted battle Mabirizi has been embroiled in with the judge. This also follows Mabirizi’s failure to pay Shs300m fine to Ssekaana.

Last week, Ssekaana summoned Mabirizi to appear in court to show cause why he should not be committed to civil prison over contempt of court.

However, the controversial lawyer did not appear before court but instead hired lawyer Noel Nuwe of Ojok and Company Advocates to represent him.

Mabirizi has been representing himself in all cases but he had instructed Nuwe to represent him to avoid being arrested in the courtroom on orders of the presiding Judge Musa Ssekaana.
