Who will be the next Speaker of Parliament? NRM to hold special caucus meeting

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has called for a special caucus meeting on Thursday.

In a letter dated March 21, the government Chief Whip, Thomas Tayebwa, informed all members of the NRM parliamentary caucus to attend the meeting.

“I have been instructed by H.E. Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and National Chairman of the NRM Party to call a special caucus meeting on Thursday 24th March 2022 to discuss the issue of Speaker of Parliament,” he said.

On Sunday, President Museveni announced Speaker of Parliament Oulanyah’s passing on. He died in Seattle, USA, where he had been on treatment since February.

According to sources, NRM has set tomorrow as the date for the expression of interest for the position of Speaker of Parliament.

The CEC will later convene on Wednesday and Caucus on Thursday. The election of Speaker will be conducted on Friday.
