FUFA hands lengthy bans to three officials for match-fixing

Local football governing body FUFA, through its Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, has banned three officials after finding them guilty of match-fixing.

The banned officials are Police FC’s CEO, Abraham Luzzi, James Kaweesa, and Kawowo Sports Journalist, David Isabirye.

According to FUFA, the trio was involved in manipulating and influencing the result of the Stanbic Uganda Cup match between Tooro United and Five Stars recently.

The said match that took place in January 2022 at Works playground in Entebbe ended goalless before Tooro United progressed after a 8-7 penalty shootout win.

Luzzi has been banned for 10 years from all football activities, Kaweesa given a hefty 15-year ban while Isabirye will serve two years.

Luzzi and Kaweesa were found guilty of approaching a player to influence the match result while Isabirye has been banned for failure to report the illegal conduct of both Luzzi and Kaweesa.

It was reported that Five Stars goalkeeper Jackson Kigozi was approached by the banned two officials and the duo were arrested at Abayita-Ababiri Police station before they were released.
