The police is introducing a 30km/h speed limit for all motorists in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

This comes after police blamed the high number of accidents happening in Kampala metropolitan on overspeeding.

Last week’s traffic report indicated that a total of 342 accidents occurred and out of these 64 accidents were fatal, 167 were serious and 111 were minor.

Also, there were 309 accident victims during this period, and of these, 72 people died, and 237 sustained injuries.

Yesterday, Traffic officers were taught how to operate speed cameras at Yusuf Lule Road, Kampala following a two-day class training.

According to police, collisions at speeds slower than 30 km/h rarely result in fatal crashes.

The current limit is 50km/h.
