The Ministry of Works and Transport has suspended the operations of Link buses for two weeks to investigate the increasing road carnage involving their own buses.

The suspension follows yesterday’s accident that left 20 people dead and other nursing injuries. The incident happened near Fort Portal City along the Kampala- Kasese Highway when a Link bus veered off the road.

According to Ecweru Musa Francis, the state minister for works and transport, they are concerned about the frequency of accidents on the roads and the number of lives lost on well-paved roads.

“We will conduct an investigation to ascertain whether it is regulation which isn’t adequate or is it enforcement or is it sensitization that is lacking,” said Ecweru.

For Link busses, he said that they have been suspended for mechanical examination to ensure that they are safe to be on the road.

“We need to have discussions with bus company managers to have them appreciate that they have an obligation to safeguard the lives of their passengers,” he said.
