Former Forum for Democratic (FDC) presidential candidate Rtd.Col.Kizza Besigye has made a declaration launching the Walk to Work protests. Besigye first ‘commanded’ the walk to work protest in 2011, at a time when prices of commodities were skyrocketing.

While addressing journalists at his home in Kasangati, Besigye said it’s time for Ugandans to rise up and save the country from the skyrocketing commodity prices, oppression, and suspected political succession plan.

According to Besigye, the current economic crisis in the country has been caused by the continued wasteful expenditures by the government.

“We have many government officials doing the same job, for example, the RDCs and CAOs. Uganda’s army is in Congo on taxpayers’ money,” Besigye said.

Also, Besigye urged Ugandans to stand up against the alleged plot by President Yoweri Museveni to make his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the next president.

“We have to fight for transition, not succession. We must remove the dynasty that is superintendent and controls our country. We want our country back,” he said.

He added, “The regime is expected to resort to violence to try to stop us from taking control of our country, but if we organize ourselves well, we shall lock down the regime.”

However, Besigye has been arrested as he attempted to move to town in protest of the unreasonable commodity prices. He has been put under house arrest.
