Lukwago drags KCCA administrators to court

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has said that the city executive council has sued a section of KCCA administrators over what he terms a breach of the law under the armpits of creating a #SmartCity.

The lawsuit arises out of a disagreement between the city’s leadership over several measures, including the regulation of Boda Boda riders.

Last week, KCCA started arresting riders with no riding permits.

In the lawsuit where Lukwago dragged the Ministers of Kampala, Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), and the KCCA technical team to court, he seeks orders to stop the deployment of army officers from City Street and to stop the brutality of boda boda cyclists and street vendors.

Also, the Lord Mayor wants the court to hold the ministers, RCCs, and the KCCA technical team accountable for the illegalities committed while pushing the #SmartCity.

For starters, authorities want Kampala to become Uganda’s first smart city. A smart city is expected to be an innovative city that uses information and communication technology (ICT) and other means to improve quality of life, the efficiency of urban operations, services, and competitiveness while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social, and environmental aspects.
