Despite the fact that in summer the air temperature is most often more than 20 degrees and it is quite warm to run in such weather, weather conditions can change: heat and heat one day, windy weather on another, rainy on the third. For this reason, it is worth having at your disposal not only shorts and a T-shirt but also things that protect against wind and moisture.

In the heat, the body overheats, and the athlete sweats profusely and loses a lot of fluid and salts. Therefore, when choosing sports equipment for the summer, it is important to consider that the clothes are made of synthetic fabrics that quickly remove moisture.

Almost all sports items are made of polyester yarn of various weaves. Depending on additional technologies for moisture removal and compression, the price of equipment will vary for different brands.

Cotton should be avoided in both clothing and socks because cotton does not wick sweat well, absorbs moisture, becomes heavy, and irritates the skin. It is also worth avoiding dark tones in clothes, especially when running under the sun. Dark colors reflect less light, which causes the body to overheat faster.

If possible, in the summer, training should be done during the hours of the least solar activity – in the morning or in the evening. When running at night, it is better to wear reflective clothing. Some models of sneakers also have reflective inserts.

Daytime practice at the peak of the heat is justified if the athlete is preparing for competitions that will take place in similar conditions. And then such training should be approached responsibly – do not do them often and take into account that in the heat the pulse and sweating will be higher, which means that the pace should be chosen more gently. This training regimen is suitable only for professional athletes.

 

What clothes to wear in summer

T-shirts and t-shirts

For running in warm weather, the choice between a tank top and a T-shirt is an individual matter, for cool weather, there are summer options for long sleeves. In any case, you should choose among sports items made of synthetic fabrics with perforations that allow the skin to breathe.

In addition to the fabric, clothing can also vary in seams. The rougher the seam, the easier it is to manufacture, but also the worse such a product interacts with the skin. Chafing may occur, especially during long training sessions and competitions.

Clothes with flat seams are more comfortable but more expensive. There are also seamless solutions with glued joints. Due to the complexity of manufacturing, the price of competitive running jerseys can be significantly higher.

Shorts and tights

For running in summer in warm weather, classic running shorts or tights just above the knee are suitable. In cool weather, wear long running pants or full-length tights. For convenience, some manufacturers make shorts with internal tights.

Which shoes to run in summer

When choosing sneakers for summer running, you should definitely look at the perforation – the mesh should be light and ventilated. The optimal solution for the heat is a single-layer mesh with noticeable perforations. When training in the rain, it is better to take impregnated sneakers. Models with a Gore-Tex membrane are not suitable for summer, as the legs do not breathe in them at all.

If the competition takes place in the rain or on wet pavement, you should pay attention to the grip – the outsole on the sole must be unworn, otherwise, you can fall on a sharp turn or turn. This is especially true for expensive competitive models that have a small working resource. For them, the outsole is made very thin for the sake of weight, so it wears out very quickly.

If training takes place in a stadium, then in addition to grip, you should also pay attention to lateral support, which is usually very weak or completely absent in expensive carbon marathons. Sneakers should have a pronounced heel cup that will keep the foot on the turns.
