Commonwealth Games 2022: Uganda’s Kiplangat wins men’s marathon Gold

Victor Kiplangat won Uganda its first medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

On the second day of the event, Kiplangat won gold in the men’s marathon after posting 2:10:55.

Uganda has competed in 16 Commonwealth Games since 1954. His medal takes Uganda’s gold medal count to 17, and the total number of medals is now 54. Kiplangat is the first Ugandan Athlete to win the Commonwealth Games Marathon.

The 22-year-old, who is a training partner of Olympic Champion and world record holder Joshua Cheptegei, made his marathon debut in 2021, and he went on to win the Istanbul Marathon.

This year in March, he started the season in style by winning the Gent Half Marathon. He beat a strong field of runners to record a time of 1:00:11 in the half marathon that took place in Belgium.
