Five people dead in stone quarry collapse

A total of five bodies have been recovered from the rubble after half a quarry caved in covering them.

The incident happened at Nganjo Lc1, Namulanda ward, Kajansi Town Council in Wakiso district at about 6:30 pm on Saturday.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson identifies the deceased as Abdu Nsumba 35 years, the driver of motor vehicle registration number UBL 456T Isuzu forward who had gone to load gravel at about 1700hrs at the stone quarry.

The others are Ronald Kagwa 30 years, Vincent Kasule, Junior Irumba 24 years, and Posiano Lubogo 39 years all casual labourers.

“Investigations into the matter are on to ascertain what happened,” says Owoyesigyire

He urges members of the public in the surrounding area to avoid moving to the quarry as it is currently a threat to the lives of those occupying it.
