Police in Kampala has arrested Jane Unaneza, a woman who was captured on CCTV footage shoplifting in downtown Kampala.

In the video that has gone viral on social media, the suspect is seen removing money from the bag of the shop attendant while she is helping out to fit new shoes.

The incident took place at Pentagon Plaza, which is located at the former Qualicel Bus Park opposite the New Taxi Park.

Unaneza allegedly stole over Shs1m from the shop attendant, identified as Sarah Mugerwa. The shop attendant opened a case at the New Taxi Park police post and later at CPS.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, said Unaneza was picked up at Buganda Road Magistrate’s court following a tip-off. Police checked its records and noticed that she was earlier arrested by another police post in downtown Kampala.

Onyango said that Unaneza is a serial shoplifter with several pending theft cases.

By press time, police were collecting more information about Unaneza’s shoplifting and theft cases at, among other police posts, Nakivubo, Kisekka New Taxi Park, and the Old Kampala divisional station.
