Rishi Sunak is set to become the United Kingdom’s 57th prime minister. Sunak has gone from MP to prime minister in just seven years – faster than any other PM in the modern era.

Sunak won the contest to replace the short-lived prime minister, Liz Truss, when his only remaining opponent, Penny Mordaunt, withdrew after failing to reach the threshold of 100 nominating votes from Conservative lawmakers.

He will be the first British-Asian and the first Hindu Prime Minister. Also, at 42, he’s the youngest PM in modern times.

Reports also indicate that the incoming UK prime minister is richer than the King of England, Prince Charles, as he is worth £730 million.

Sunak was born on May 12, 1980, in Southampton, Hampshire, to African-born Hindu parents of Indian Punjabi descent, Yashvir and Usha Sunak.

He is the eldest of three siblings. His father was born and raised in Kenya, while his mother was born in Tanganyika (which later became part of Tanzania).

His grandfathers were born in Punjab province, British India, and migrated from East Africa with their families to the U.K in the 1960s.

Sunak is set to meet the king today and officially be named prime minister. He is then expected to give a speech at Downing Street.
