Police have stated that anyone who surrenders military attires, such as berets, in their possession to security agencies within 14 days will receive compensation, especially ghetto youths.

Each item of clothing will be exchanged for Sh10,000 for those who return the paraphernalia within 14 days.

While addressing the media on Thursday at the Police headquarters in Naguru, SCP Stephen Tanui, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) commander, noted that criminals have been using military camouflage uniforms to commit crimes in the areas of Wakiso and Kyengera.

SCP Tanui asked members of the public not to fear to voluntarily hand over the military-like fatigue to the nearest police stations, noting that after 14 days, the Joint Security Agencies will launch a very serious operation to recover the attires.

The red beret was the symbol of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party until it was declared military paraphernalia in 2019, at which point it was prohibited from being worn by anyone not authorized to do so.
