President Museveni has issued new COVID-19 rules, which he said will come into effect immediately.

Museveni said that the national task force examined the country’s current COVID situation and made recommendations that ought to be adopted and put into practice right away.

Museveni mandated that proof of vaccination be required for entry to official gatherings held in public spaces.

“No one will be allowed to enter public places without an updated certificate to show you have gotten two doses and a booster,” Museveni said last evening.

He explained that all other public gatherings, including district council meetings, parent association meetings at schools, and offices of government ministries, agencies, and departments, would also be subject to the new rules.

“Where there is no up-to-date vaccination certificate, a negative PCR test certificate for 24 hours before is required,” he said.

Additionally, all people must wear face masks when in confined spaces and at public events.

Hugs and handshakes, according to the president, are still not permitted.

He noted that, to date, Uganda has received 49 doses of Covid vaccines. Although 23 million vaccine doses have not yet been administered, 22 million adults and 6.5 million children have received their vaccinations.
