When a nation earns a spot in the FIFA World Cup, there is a lot of pressure on it, especially if that national team has a strong roster and has performed well in a continental cup competition, or qualification, or when the team has an impressive squad.

But the current World Cup in Qatar has had shocking results, just like other football competitions, so some “heavyweight” teams haven’t progressed past the group stage.

Some team managers have left their positions as a result.

Gerardo Martino

Mexico was eliminated from the tournament in the first round after three underwhelming performances, making Gerardo Martino the first official coaching casualty of 2022. After the final group match, Martino formally announced his resignation.

Roberto Martínez

Belgian manager Roberto Martnez also declared he would step down following The Red Devils’ disappointing group stage showing in which they finished third.

Martnez had been working with Belgium since 2016, and they were considered to be strong favorites. Martnez helped Belgium achieve success, as they made it to the quarterfinals of the 2016 Euros, finished third at the 2018 World Cup, and advanced to the 2020 Euros quarterfinals.

Otto Addo

Following a disappointing group stage in which his team missed the chance to advance to the knockout stage, Ghanaian head coach Otto Addo announced his resignation on Friday.

In a game against Uruguay that had to be won, the Black Stars lacked energy.
