Namibia, a country of 2.5 million people, uses 45 million condoms per year, according to the country’s ministry of health.

The ministry, which was giving updates about the status of HIV-AIDS in the country, stated that the country has only 726 000 males.

“Of this total, 57% are in the age range of 15 to 64, which is deemed the reproductive age,” said the ministry.

However, the Health Ministry revealed that approximately 33,000 people living with HIV are either unaware of their status or do not have the virus under control.

More than 13% of Namibian adults are HIV-positive, which translates into 219,000 people.

“There are 6 000 new HIV infections and 3,000 deaths from HIV-AIDS each year in Namibia. Most people living with HIV who are taking their medication correctly every day, are stable, and will live long, healthy lives,” the ministry said.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Eswatini has the highest HIV prevalence of any country in the world as nearly 27% of its population is HIV-positive.

Other countries are Lesotho, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zambia, among others.
