Why security operatives raided Nabweru

Security agencies carried out a joint operation in Nabweru, Nansana Division, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District and arrested six people.

The suspects were identified as Hamidu Ssekidde, Muhammad Kalyango, Abdul Katamba, Arafat Ssali, Emmanuel Asiimwe and Hamidu Muyondi.

According to Major Charles Kabona, UPDF’s 1st Division spokesperson, their operation was intelligence-led.

“After getting our technical and human intelligence information last night, our forces came to this place (Nabweru) and managed to arrest six people,” said Kabona.

He further revealed that the suspects were reported to have gadgets that make Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Major Kabona explained that they mobilized their armed teams and surrounded the area.

“We have a threat amidst us and therefore, we must work very closely to ensure that we curb such criminality. We shall not allow anybody to destabilise our country,” he said.

During the raid, one suspect, Muyondi was shot in the leg.

The security operatives recovered exhibits that include; 12 wine bottles, wielding binder nails, charcoal dust, sugar, a jerrycan of petrol, matchboxes, blasting cup, dynamite and candlewick, among others.
