Aponye’s driver charged, remanded to prison

Moses Buyinza Isabirye, the driver of the late business mogul Apollo Nyegamehe, popularly known as Aponye, has been remanded to Ntungamo Government prison.

Buyinza appeared before the Ntungamo grade one magistrate, Shalon Nasuna, and was charged with causing death and bodily injuries through reckless driving.

During the court proceedings, Ntungamo state attorney Laudel Twinomugisha presented the prosecution’s case. It was stated that on July 6, at around 9:00 pm, Buyinza was driving a V8 Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number UBF 300Z along the Mbarara-Ntungamo road in Ntungamo district.

He collided with a stationary trailer, causing bodily injuries to Joshua Karamuzi (Aponye’s brother) and resulting in the death of Aponye.

Buyinza pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded until August 1, when his case will be mentioned again.

The late Apollo Nyegamehe, Aponye, was laid to rest on Wednesday at his ancestral in Kigo village, Muhanga town council, Rukiga district.
