The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), once the largest opposition party, is currently facing a significant rift in its top leadership, leading to parallel media briefings by the party’s President, Patrick Amuriat, and his predecessor, Dr. Kizza Besigye, today.

The press conferences by Amuriat and Besigye are scheduled to take place simultaneously at 11 am.

Amuriat’s briefing will be held at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, while Dr. Besigye will address the media at Katonga Road.

The aim of these briefings is to address the mounting allegations against each other, as the party grapples with internal strife. Accusations have been exchanged and both leaders are set to provide their side of the story.

During the national consultative meeting organized by a group led by FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Deputy President Erias Lukwago on Monday, accusations were made against the party’s Secretary-General, Nandala Mafabi, of colluding with the state. It is important to note that this meeting was reportedly organized without the approval of the FDC President.

Furthermore, both President Amuriat and Secretary-General Mafabi have been accused of accepting financial contributions from the ruling party during the 2021 election period. However, both leaders have vehemently denied these allegations.

In the midst of these developments, it has been reported that Dr. Besigye, the former FDC president, is aligned with the Ssemujju-Erias Lukwago camp.
