The excitement is building as the second edition of the eagerly-awaited annual Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon approaches, set to take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, in the picturesque town of Kasese.

Adding to the excitement, Hima Cement has once again joined forces as a sponsor for the event, marking its second year of involvement.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at Mediterraneo Restaurant in Kololo on Tuesday.

Philemon Mubiru, the Marketing Manager of Hima Cement, revealed that the company’s support extends beyond a financial contribution. In addition to their sponsorship, Hima Cement will spearhead awareness campaigns about the marathon, leveraging their deep-rooted presence in Kasese over the decades. Mubiru further shared that a range of enticing goodies awaits the participants.

Amos Wekesa, representing Equator Hikes, the marathon’s organizers, shared exciting news about the diverse pool of participants already registered, hailing from various nationalities.

“This year, our target is to welcome around 3,000 runners, largely due to the increased availability of accommodation in Kasese and its environs. Anticipation is high, especially as Kenya commits to bringing a substantial number of runners. We are thrilled to see participants from across the region,” said Wekesa.

The Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate runners of all skill levels. Entrants can opt for the challenging 42km full marathon, the 21km half-marathon, or the 5km fun run. Each category offers a unique opportunity for participants to push their boundaries while relishing the breathtaking splendour of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges.

Registration for the marathon is now open. East African Community residents can secure their spot for Shs60,000, while international participants will pay $60.

As the anticipation intensifies, the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon promises an unforgettable experience for both runners and spectators, all while showcasing the remarkable beauty of the Rwenzori region.

Registration is through the marathon website; www.mtrwenzori.com
