Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omara, who retired from the Uganda Police Force in 2020, has embraced a new role and expressed his satisfaction in joining the private security industry, citing significantly improved earnings compared to his previous post.

Afande Omara has been living a quiet life since his retirement until Monday when he was introduced as the Deputy CEO of Operations at Arrow Security Systems Limited, a private security firm owned by Captain Mike Mukula.

This move sparked diverse reactions from the public. Some perceived it as a potential indication of a decline in his status due to inadequate retirement planning, while others supported his decision, considering it a common trajectory for retired civil servants seeking alternative career paths.

During an appearance on Urban TV this morning, Afande Omara revealed that his original intention was to venture into politics after his retirement.

“When I initially expressed my political aspirations, I had not yet retired from the police force. My retirement took place after the nomination period,” he clarified.

Furthermore, he asserted, “However, I have no regrets about my current path. I believe that God has led me to a rewarding role as Deputy CEO at Arrow Security. I am enjoying a monthly salary of over Shs7 million. My interest in politics has waned.”

According to the Police salary structure, officers at the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police earn Shs1.8 million.

Afande Omara is remembered for his battle-hardiness against Dr. Kizza Besigye and other opposition leaders during the 2011 Walk to Work protests.
