David Muhoozi, the State Minister for Internal Affairs, has explained that the arrest of National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, at Entebbe International Airport was done to prevent an ‘illegal’ event called the ‘One Million March’ organized by his party members and supporters. This event was planned to welcome Bobi Wine back to Uganda after his international tour in Canada and South Africa.

On October 5, security operatives grabbed Bobi Wine from the plane and drove him to his home in Magere. This action caused mixed reactions, with some opposition leaders calling on Parliament to demand a report from the government about the actions of the security forces.

During the report presentation this afternoon, Muhoozi questioned why Bobi Wine created so much hype about his return when there was nothing extraordinary about his trip. He explained that the airport is a busy place, and measures had to be taken to ensure public order and safety.

Muhoozi cited examples of President Museveni’s trips, where he comes and goes without causing disruptions or processions, respecting the rights of other citizens.

He argued that this is how it should be for other dignitaries and ordinary Ugandans returning to the country.
