Emmanuel Lwasa, a well-known businessman in Masaka, has been remanded to prison over his failure to settle a debt amounting to Shs18 million.

Lwasa, who has frequently been in the limelight for his extravagant lifestyle, was taken into custody on Tuesday following his refusal to comply with a police summons issued several weeks ago.

The debt that has led to Lwasa’s incarceration is related to advertising services provided by a local media station. According to reports, Lwasa had placed advertisements with the media outlet but had failed to meet his financial obligations.

Despite repeated attempts by the media station to recover the outstanding debt through negotiations and reminders, Lwasa allegedly made no substantial payments towards the Shs18 million owed. In light of this, legal action was taken against the businessman as a last resort to recover the debt.

Subsequently, Lwasa was arrested, and legal proceedings were initiated. As a result, he was remanded to prison on Tuesday.
