Police in Jinja have arrested Mwase Rose, a 27-year-old mother from Buwajinaikazi village in Jinja district, following the alleged double murder of her two children.

The victims, identified as Babirye China, a 5-year-old, and Claire Sowati, a 1-year-old girl, were reportedly murdered and buried in the sitting room. The police revealed that the incident occurred around October 27 while the suspect’s husband, Kagoda Paul, was away engaged in casual work in Ngongwe, Buikwe district.

Upon the husband’s return on October 30, he found his wife alone at home with their two children missing. When questioned, the suspect failed to provide a clear account of their whereabouts, prompting her husband to inquire with their neighbours. The neighbours mentioned they last saw the children three days prior, playing around the house.

During a thorough search of their home, the father made a discovery – an area within the sitting room where his daughters had been buried. The mother was immediately apprehended and handed over to the authorities at Budondo police station.

The police then conducted an investigation, involving a team of forensic experts from Kiira region, which revisited the scene on October 31. The body of the elder sister, Babirye China, was found buried, but the body of the younger sister, Claire Sowati, was discovered to be headless. The chopped-off head of Claire Sowati was recovered. The suspect now faces two counts of murder.
