He Wei, a Chinese national, fell victim to a robbery on Ssezibwa Road in Kololo, losing $190,000 (about Shs718 million). The incident occurred on Thursday around 1 pm.

According to the Police, Wei was targeted by a gang of thieves travelling on five motorcycles. The Chinese national had hired a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to transport him from his residence along Ssezibwa Road.

While en route, Wei was ambushed by the assailants, who forcibly took possession of his bag containing a substantial sum of money before making a swift escape.

“To his surprise, even the boda-boda rider he had hired to take him to his home, where he collected the money, joined the gang of other riders. They drove off after grabbing his bag containing money,” explained the police.

The robbery has been officially recorded at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS), and authorities are actively investigating the incident.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, issued a cautionary statement, advising against carrying significant amounts of money without adequate security measures, particularly for foreigners.
