The United Nations C4ISR Academy for Peace Operations (UNCAP) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), through its Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), have launched the first-ever Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) center at the Regional Service Centre Entebbe (RSCE).

The creation of the VILT Centre, with an estimated cost of approximately 500,000 Euros, introduces a cutting-edge remote training platform facilitating real-time interaction between instructors and UNCAP trainees in Africa.

This new facility is poised to revolutionize training methodologies, allowing UNCAP trainees to receive guidance from experts, engage in interactive simulations to acquire new skills, and effectively monitor their progress—all without the need for global travel.

Paulin Djomo, Director of RSCE, highlighted the cost-effective nature of VILT, stating, “With VILT, we do not have to fly in participants from all over the world but can have them receive instructions from their duty stations and locations with the feel of being inside the training room. The VILT also offers a solid hybrid training methodology with theoretical materials offered online and practical exercises on the campus. This reduces considerably the cost of training.”

Djomo further explained that the VILT Center is tailored to the specific needs of UNCAP, aiming to enhance the overall capabilities of uniformed signals and ICT personnel, thereby supporting the objectives of the Defence and Related Security Capacity Building (DCB) Initiative.

The UNCAP-NATO Partnership focuses on several key areas, encompassing the sharing of NATO course materials, delivering train-the-trainer courses, providing consultancy support, and contributing to the development of a robust VILT capability.
