Archbishop of the Church of Uganda (COU), Dr. Steven Kazimba Mugalu, has discontinued his ‘practice’ of awarding women who enter matrimony as virgins.

Years ago, while serving as the Bishop of Mityana Diocese, Kazimba initiated a campaign to recognize women who entered matrimony while still virgins.

Additionally, he pledged to provide a cash reward to any school-going girl who maintained her virginity. The girls were required to undergo an assessment by a team of highly respected born-again women knowledgeable in verifying one’s virginity.

Speaking at Vision Group headquarters during a performance of Christmas songs by various choirs on Wednesday, Kazimba revealed that he terminated the initiative of awarding virgin women and girls.

“I closed the initiative because finding women and girls who are virgins was challenging,” the archbishop said.

He further stated that in the past, men used to give goats to the woman’s family as an expression of appreciation for finding a virgin woman.

“Nowadays, men don’t give out goats because virgins are rare,” he remarked.

Kazimba also issued a warning regarding men who subject children to DNA tests, stating that they should emulate Joseph in the Bible who accepted the baby (Jesus) even though his wife Mary was a virgin.
