A 34-year-old man lost his life by drowning near Kivubu landing site on Lake Victoria. The incident occurred during a confrontation with army officers conducting water patrols, who were attempting to apprehend individuals engaged in illegal fishing.

The victim, identified as Kigongo Gerald Ssempijja, along with his friend Kayongo Francis, opted to escape arrest by jumping into the lake. The army officers promptly initiated a rescue operation to apprehend the suspects.
