Gospel singer and Family Life Church leader, Pastor Twina Herbert of Kawempe, has revealed that hunger played a significant role in leading him to become born again.

During an interview on NTV’s Mwasuze Mutya show hosted by Ruth Kalibbala, Pastor Twina shared that he became independent during Senior Two due to financial challenges in his family. His father worked in the security department at Makerere University, and providing food became a major struggle. The financial hardships led to his sister not completing Senior Four and getting married, while he began supporting himself from Senior Two onwards.

To sustain himself, Pastor Twina took up washing clothes for people, although there were times when he struggled to find work.

It was during these challenging times that he turned to God as a means of survival. Two incidents were pivotal in leading him to salvation. Firstly, when he lacked a meal card at school, he attended lunch-hour prayers to avoid appearing without food. Secondly, a neighbour informed him that Watoto Church served milk and bread at overnight events, prompting him to start attending church.

Despite attending for practical reasons initially, Pastor Twina eventually decided to fully commit his life to Christ. During his Senior Six vacation, a friend started a church, and Pastor Twina became an assistant pastor. Since then, he has been actively involved in ministry work.
