The Uganda Cranes, who have been nomads playing home matches in different countries across Africa, will now be playing at the newly renovated Namboole Stadium.

Following a reassessment visit from Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials last Wednesday, CAF has granted permission to the local football governing body, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), to host international matches at Namboole.

“This therefore implies that the Uganda Cranes will host the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier matches against Botswana and Algeria in June at Namboole,” said FUFA in a brief statement.

The Cranes last played at Namboole on November 17, 2019. The team beat Malawi 2-0 thanks to goals from Emmanuel Okwi and Fahad Bayo.

Namboole Stadium has been under renovation since February 2022 after the government approved Shs97 billion for the renovation works.

A week ago, the stadium hosted two Uganda Premier League (UPL) fixtures as test matches. The facility is now a smart stadium, allowing fans to access it with digitally purchased tickets.
