Bugiri Municipality legislator, Hon. Asuman Basalirwa, has threatened to sue Theodore Ssekikubo (MP for Lwemiyaga County) and all other MPs who have signed the motion intending to censure the four Parliamentary Commissioners.

Speaking during a heated argument at Parliament this morning, Basalirwa claimed to have received instructions from Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central) and Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe), who are among the commissioners Ssekikubo and a section of MPs want to censure.

Basalirwa argues that the censure motion is in contempt of court because there is already an active case where Parliament was sued for the service award.

He says that when he goes to court, he will ensure he asks for hefty damages that will be paid by Ssekikubo for orchestrating such an illegality.

Last week, a section of legislators, led by Ssekikubo, started collecting signatures to back their motion to censure Mathias Mpuuga, the former Leader of the Opposition, and three National Resistance Movement (NRM) Commissioners for allocating themselves Shs1.7 billion as a ‘service award.’

Mpuuga is reported to have received Shs500 million, while the other commissioners—Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central), Esther Afoyochan (Zombo Woman), and Prossy Mbabazi (Rubanda Woman)—received Shs400 million each. The meeting in which this money was allocated and approved was chaired by Speaker Anita Among.

Over 100 signatures have been gathered out of the approximately 177 required to get the censure motion passed.
