Equity Bank Uganda Limited has joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Environment Day under Uganda’s theme for this year, “Land Restoration for Climate Resilience.”

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. In Uganda, the main celebration is in Sironko, where Prime Minister Hon. Robinah Nabanja is the Chief Guest.

On such a day, it is worth noting that Equity has always been at the forefront of social responsibility, with a strong focus on environmental conservation.

The bank has several initiatives aimed at addressing environmental restoration, such as the Equi Green Loan, designed to support projects dedicated to clean energy, environmental preservation, and combating climate change. Similarly, the bank has a tree-planting initiative aimed at promoting sustainable practices for preserving natural habitats and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Through this initiative, Equity Group intends to plant 35 million trees across the countries it operates in. Equity Bank Uganda, in collaboration with the National Forestry Authority and Million Trees International, has already made significant strides in areas such as Ntungamo, Nyakasura Hill, Rubaga, Kasese, and Mwiri Hill.

Furthermore, Equity Bank Uganda is actively involved in promoting clean energy solutions by offering loans to customers for the purchase of clean energy products from various partners.
