Two dead, eight injured as taxi rams into building in Kampala

At least two people have died, and eight others were injured in a road crash on Lubaga Road, opposite Luqman Petrol Station in Kampala. The accident occurred at around 6:30 AM.

The crash happened when a speeding vehicle, registration number UAU 194T (Toyota Hiace), traveling from Sanyu Babies Home on Butikiro Road, failed to brake while descending a slope.

The vehicle lost control and rammed into a building along Lubaga Road, opposite Luqman Petrol Station, instantly killing two people, including the driver, and injuring eight others, all of whom were occupants of the same vehicle.

The injured were rushed to Mengo Hospital and Mulago Referral Hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination.

The vehicle has been towed to Old Kampala Police Station for inspection as investigations commence.

Michael Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating, “We urge all motorists to strictly adhere to speed limits, particularly in urban areas, and ensure their vehicles are well-maintained to prevent such tragedies.”
