Ruth Lillian Kagabane appointed Compliance Director at Absa Bank Uganda

Absa Bank Uganda has appointed  Ruth Lillian Kagabane as Compliance Director with effect from 1 November 2024. Ruth is an accomplished Banker with over 17 years of diverse experience in risk management, compliance, operations and controls.

Prior to this appointment, she held the role of Head of Retail and Business Banking Operations and Controls at Absa, where she structured and introduced the Retail and Business Banking Assurance methodology.

Prior to joining Absa, Ruth worked with KPMG and Uganda Revenue Authority.

Mumba Kalifungwa, Managing Director at Absa Bank Uganda hailed Ruth for her various accomplishments while at Absa, stating that she be a valuable asset to the leadership team. “Ruth brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this critical position, based on her knowledge and past track record. This appointment is testament to our strategy to invest in and grow our people while at the same time endeavoring to attract and retain the best pool of talent in the market to drive business growth.”

Among her accomplishments during her employment at Absa include spearheading the establishment of the Bank Staff Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO), serving as its first Chairperson and now as a Trustee of the same. She has been instrumental in ensuring a satisfactory control environment within the Retail and Business Banking unit.

In addition, Ruth has also held roles of Money Laundering Reporting Officer and Operational Risk Advisor.

Her academic qualifications include a Master of Sciences Degree in Professional Accountancy, a Bachelors’ Degree in Statistics and Applied Economics and a higher Diploma in Tax Administration and Revenue. She is a Fellow of the ACCA and member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
